The Hobart College squash team opened the 2022 portion of its season with pair of matches in Maine this weekend, Jan. 14-15. The Statesmen were defeated by 20th-ranked Bowdoin and Colby and are now 5-6 overall this season.

On Friday in Brunswick, Maine, the Polar Bears bested Hobart 9-0. Bowdoin won 3-0 in the No. 1, 6, 8 and 9 spots of the ladder. The Polar Bears added 3-1 victories at No. 2, 3, 5 and 7. In the closest match of the day,
Joey Lantos was edged by Adham Sobhy 11-2, 11-7, 3-11, 9-11 11-2 in the No. 4 spot.

On Saturday in Waterville Maine, the Mules picked up a 7-2 win.
Hussein Labib and Lantos earned Hobart's points at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Labib topped Alex Spafford, 11-6, 4-11, 11-7, 11-8. Labib is now 6-4 this season, including a 3-2 mark in the No. 3 spot. Lantos knocked off Jack Vanderhorst, 11-8, 11-7, 11-3. It was Lantos' fifth win of the season. He is 2-1 in the No. 4 spot. Â

Cameron Temoyan were in tight matches in the sixth-eighth spots in the lineup but were defeated 3-2.

Hobart is scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Jan. 23, when it welcomes Dickinson to the Smith Squash Center. The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
