#22 Herons earn split in Maine to open 2022

The William Smith College squash team, which is ranked 22nd in the latest College Squash Association team rankings, earned a split against Bowdoin and Colby in Maine this weekend, Jan. 14-15. The Herons are now 7-3 overall this season.
 
On Friday in Brunswick, Maine, 20th-ranked Bowdoin defeated William Smith 8-1. Shante Frank logged the Herons' lone point, besting Marguerite Crowder, 11-5, 11-9, 11-7 in the No. 5 spot. It was Frank's seventh win of the season. Erin Griffis and Maia Dreishpoon, who were making their season debuts, were edged 3-2 at No. 8 and No. 9 respectively. Griffis' match against Delphine King was tightly contested. King squeaked out a 7-11, 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6 victory.
 
On Saturday in Waterville, The Herons edged Colby 6-3. Lark Ervasti, Frank and Dreishpoon earned 3-0 wins. Ervasti topped India Spencer, 11-9, 11-5, 11-5, in the No. 3 spot. Ervasti is 7-1 this season and is 1-1 in the No. 3 spot. Frank cruised past Teope, 11-9, 11-7, 11-6, at No. 5. It was her eighth win of the season. Playing in the No. 9 spot, Dreishpoon knocked off Brigid Woelfel, 11-9, 11-6, 11-5. Laila Selim logged her eighth win of the season, defeating Clara Lehv 11-9, 11-13, 11-8, 11-8. Jo Pacheco also won her eighth match of the season, besting Juliette Love, 11-5, 13-11, 6-11, 13-11, at No. 6. Jada Smith-Padmore closed out the match with ha 3-1 win in the No. 4 spot. She beat Karla Dominguez, 7-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7.
 
William Smith is scheduled to be back in action next Sunday, Jan. 23, when it returns to the HWS Squash Center. The Herons are slated to host Dickinson at 11 a.m. and Mount Holyoke at 3 p.m.
