ITHACA, N.Y.—The Hobart College rowing team completed the fall portion of its schedule this past weekend at the Cornell Fall Classic. The Statesmen competed in pairs and eights races on the weekend.
Crews raced against the clock in two separate races over two distances. The first was a 3000-meter head race followed up with a 300m super sprint. Total times were calculated by adding the 3000m time to three times the 300m time.
Saturday's racing consisted of crews from Bucknell, Cornell, Mercyhurst, Ithaca and RIT.
VARSITY EIGHTS:
- Hobart's top varsity eight finished sixth overall, turning in a time a combined time of 12:42.6. Corin Wiggins, Charles Watroba, Aidan Vanek, Owen O'Connor Adam Pomerantz, Jake Hodge, Tibor Teleki, Sean Madden and Tobias Shafer finished the head race with a time of 10:04.8, the fifth fastest time. They completed their 300m sprint with a time of 0:52.6.
- Hobart's second varsity eight was 10th turning in a combined time of 12:52.2. Reed Bluestein, Bode Lonergan, Sam Peeler, Brogan Dietsche, Ryan Behar, Colin Mester, Kevin Frost, Holden May and Mason Fairfield powered the boat. Their 3000m time was 10:18.2 and the 300-meter time stopped the clock at 0:51.3.
- Hobart's other two eights were 16th and 19th, respectively.
- Cornell's top lightweight eight finished first overall with a combined time of 12:02.0.
PAIRS:
- Hobart had five boats entered in the morning's pair racing.
- Hodge and Behar turned in the Statesmen's best finish, placing ninth in the 23 crew field. They posted a combined time of 15:02.7. In the head race, they stopped the clock at 11:50.1 and posted a 1:04.2 sprint time.
- Kevin Frost and Madden placed 10th with a time of 15:03.6. while O'Connor and Vanek were 13th.
NOVICE/FRESHMAN EIGHT:
- Hobart's freshman eight finished second out of eight teams while the novice boat was sixth.
- Wiggins, Lonergan, Shaffer, Mester, Peeler, Jayden Dasher, Fairfield, May and Álvaro Paulin guided the freshman eight to a time of 13:03.6. They traversed the head race course with a time of 10:29.7 and the 300 meter sprint in 0:51.6.
- The novice eight was sixth.
