#17 Herons head to Babson to take on #4 Johns Hopkins in NCAA second round

The No. 17 William Smith College field hockey team will head to Babson Park, Massachusetts to take on No. 4 Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships second round on Saturday, Nov. 12. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. on Babson College's MacDowell Field.

Ticket sales will be cash only and are $5 for general admission, $3 for students, senior citizens and military personnel, and $2 for children ages 3-12.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • The Herons are 17-4 on the season after defeating Hartwick 4-0 in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday at McCooey Field.
  • Graduate student Emily Leonard leads the team with 32 points on 14 goals and four assists, followed by junior Sofia Pattillo with 27 points on 11 goals and five assists.
  • Junior goalie Kristen McCormick has a 14-3 record, posting a 0.91 GAA, a .773 save percentage, and nine shutouts. McCormick was named the Synapse Sports and the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week after two strong performances last week.
ABOUT THE BLUE JAYS:
  • The Blue Jays are 16-3 on the season and had a first-round bye in the tournament. JHU posted a 2-1 (5-4 in shootout) win over Bryn Mawr in the Continental Conference Championship to earn the NCAA automatic bid.
  • Abby Birk leads the Blue Jays with 35 points on 13 goals and nine assists.
  • Morgan Seward is 7-0 in goal for Johns Hopkins, posting a 0.19 GAA and a .857 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • This will be the second meeting between the Herons and the Blue Jays in program history.
  • William Smith defeated Johns Hopkins 3-2 in their only previous meeting, on Sept. 4, 2005, in Geneva.
  • Current Heron Head Coach Sophie Riskie '07 had two of her program record 39 career assists against the Blue Jays.
