Four members of the William Smith field hockey team were named 2025 Scholars of Distinction by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The NFHCA Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 or higher through the 2025 fall semester.

Abby Jones and
Delaney Williams, junior
Elle Oberfield, and sophomore
Grace McCormick were all honored for their exceptional academic achievements.
A forward, Jones started all 21 games for the Herons. She recorded eight points on three goals, including one game-winning goal, and two assists. Jones earns her fourth straight Scholar of Distinction award, as well as her fourth straight NFHCA National Academic Squad selection. She has been named a Liberty League All-Academic selection three times in her career and was an All-Liberty League honorable mention selection following the 2024 season.
A defender, Williams appeared in 11 games for the Herons. Williams is a four-time Scholar of Distinction award winner as well as a four-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection. She has earned three Liberty League All-Academic selections in her career.
 A midfielder, Oberfield saw action in 18 games for the Herons. This is her third-straight Scholar of Distinction award, as well as her third NFHCA National Academic Squad selection. Oberfield also earned her second Liberty League All-Academic selection.
A midfielder, McCormick saw action in three games for the Herons. This is her second-straight NFHCA National Academic Squad selection.
Since 2015, William Smith field hockey has earned 33 NFHCA Scholar of Distinction Awards.
