GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team will host a pair of Liberty League games this weekend, welcoming nationally-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and conference preseason favorite Vassar College to Bristol Gymnasium. The Statesmen will square off with the Engineers Friday at 7:30 p.m. and face the Brewers Saturday at 4 p.m.
Both games will be webcast on HWS All-Access with Live Stats also available on HWSAthletics.com.
The Statesmen have won three-in-a-row to improve to 5-2 overall. Most recently, Hobart topped Keuka 94-63. The Statesmen, who are second in the nation in rebounding margin (+16.0), dominated the Glass against the Wolves, outrebounding the visitors 52-22.
Jackson Meshanic leads the team in points, rebounds and assists, averaging 19.6 ppg, 10.6 rpg and 4.1 apg. He is third in the nation with five double-doubles this season.
Patrick Walker adds 10.6 ppg and
Carter Meshanic chips in 9.9 ppg.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
- RPI, No. 19 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, brings a 5-1 record to Geneva. The Engineers are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season, a 58-40 setback at No. 5 Williams.
- Jonny Angbazo leads three players in double digits, producing 15.5 ppg.
- Dom Black adds 12.5 ppg and a team-high 6.7 rpg.
- Will Rubin contributes 11.7 ppg and a team-high 4.2 apg.
- Friday's game will be the 123rd all-time meeting between the programs with the Engineers leading the series 72-50.
WHAT'S BREWING
- Vassar, which was voted No. 1 in the Liberty League preseason poll, is 3-1 overall following a 61-48 win over Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) on Nov. 19. The Brewers will play at Ithaca Friday before venturing to the north end of Seneca Lake.
- Avni Mustafaj tops the team's scoring efforts at 15.3 ppg.
- Kevin McAuliffe is second on the team at 10.8 ppg. He's third in the conference in 3-pointers made per game (3.0).
- Saturday's game will be the 46th between the Statesmen and Brewers. Hobart leads the series 37-8, but Vassar won the most recent meeting in the 2021 Liberty League Tournament, 71-69 on a buzzer beater by Jack Rothenberg.
