#13 Herons win twice at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The 13th-ranked William Smith College squash team improved to 4-1 overall this season with a pair of wins over NESCAC foes at Vassar College today. The Herons defeated No. 17 Middlebury and No. 25 Wesleyan 7-2.
 
MIDDLEBURY MATCH:
  • William Smith opened the day against the Panthers.
  • The Herons had four 3-0 victories in the match.
  • Marce Marquez Martinez beat Isabella Rosa 11-1, 11-5, 11-8 at No. 3.
  • Diya Moolani knocked off Abbie Peterson, 11-6, 18-16, 11-6, in the No. 5 spot.
  • Lark Ervasti defeated Evan Weiss 11-9, 11-6, 1-5 at No. 7 and Jada Smith-Padmore knocked off Annabel Pick 11-4, 11-0, 11-4.
  • Laila Selim and Anna O'Connor posted 3-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively. Selim edged Abby Holding, 7-11, 11-6, 11-7, 14-12, and O'Connor beat Kieran Suntha, 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 13-11.
 
 
WESLEYAN MATCH:
  • The Herons picked up another five 3-0 victories against the Cardinals.
  • At No. 1, Rafaela Albuja Sanchez bested Avika Pande, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5.
  • Selim improved to 2-0 on the day sweeping Mira Bakshi, 11-2, 11-8, 11-6, in the No. 2 spot.
  • Marquez Martinez completed topped Aanya Anand, 11-6, 11-2, 11-9, at No. 3.
  • O'Connor and Ervasti cruised to wins at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively.
  • Shante Frank and Smith-Padmore logged 3-1 wins at No. 4 and No. 8, respectively.
 
 
SEASON UPDATE:
  • With two wins today, captain Anna O'Connor has a team-best 4-1 record.
  • Five different Herons improved to 3-2 on the year.
 
UP NEXT:
William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Dec. 4, when it wraps up the 2022 portion of its schedule. The Herons will take on Vassar at 10 a.m.
