#22 Herons to compete for Walker Cup

The 22nd-ranked  William Smith College Squash Team will head to Boston, Massachusetts, this weekend Feb. 25th-27th to compete in the 2022 College Squash Association Team Championships. The Herons will be competing for the Walker Cup.
 
The championships will be hosted by Harvard and Tufts. William Smith begins its trophy quest against 19th-ranked Middlebury Friday at 10 a.m. The Herons' second match of the tournament will take place against either No. 23 Hamilton or No. 18 Stanford Saturday morning. The other half of the draw includes No. 17 Franklin & Marshall, No. 24 Wesleyan, No. 21 Dickinson and No. 20 St. Lawrence.
 
Spectators must be fully vaccinated in order to enter the venue hosting the CSA Championships. Fans who cannot show valid identification and proof of vaccination status may not attend events in person. All spectators at the competition venues must wear a mask over their nose and mouth at all times while inside the facilities. Guests are asked to refrain from bringing food into the viewing areas to maintain proper masking protocol. Fans who cannot make the trip can follow all the action through the College Squash Association's YouTube Channel.
 
Jo Pacheco leads the team with 12 wins. She is 3-0 in the No. 4 spot. Shante Frank and Molly Wachter have 11 wins each. Marce Marquez Martinez and Laila Selim have played matches in the No. 1 spot this season. Marquez Martinez is 5-5 at the top of the ladder while.  
 
William Smith won the Walker Cup in 2005-06 and 2006-07. The Herons won the Epps Cup three times, 2008-09, 2012-13 and 2017-18. In 2019-20, William Smith was 1-2 in the Walker Cup, placing seventh overall.
