Statesmen head to Philly to face Hawks

The Hobart College lacrosse team will seek its first Northeast Conference win of the season in Philadelphia on Saturday, April 2. The Statesmen will face off against the Saint Joseph's University Hawks at 1 p.m.
 
The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3 in Geneva). It will be webcast on NEC Front Row with live stats available on sjuhwaks.com.
 
Hobart slipped to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in the NEC, following a 14-11 loss to Bryant last Saturday. Senior attackman Ryan Archer led all players with eight points, including a career-high six assists. Senior midfielder Bradley Simas led the Statesmen with a career-high four goals.
 
Hobart leads the NEC in points per game (21.67), assists per game (7.83), man-up offense (.500) and fewest turnovers per game (14.33). With 33 points on 11 goals and 22 assists through six games, Archer paces the conference in points per game (5.5) and assists per game (3.67). Senior attackman Tommy Mott adds 12 goals and eight assists, while junior midfielder John Herlihy has contributed a team-high 14 goals and three assists.
 
Junior goalie Kevin Holtby has started all six games this season for Hobart, producing a 2-3 record with a .484 save percentage and a 12.45 GAA.
 
Junior faceoff specialist Adam Shea has taken the lion's share of faceoffs for the Statesmen this season, winning 52.9% while collecting a team-high 44 ground balls. He'll square off against SJU senior Zach Cole, who leads the nation in faceoff percentage (.762) and ground balls (111).
 
The Hawks are 7-2 overall, 2-0 in the NEC, following a 12-6 win at Wagner last Saturday. Cole won all 21 faceoffs he took against the Seahawks and corralled a game-high 15 ground balls. Junior attackman Matt Bohmer led the offense with five points on four goals and an assist.
 
Bohmer leads the Hawks with 39 points on 26 goals and 13 assists. Goalie Robbie Seeley and Tucker Almany have split time in the crease. Seeley is 3-0 with a .612 save percentage and a 6.82 GAA. Almany is 4-2 with a .486 save percentage and an 11.75 GAA.
 
Saturday's game will be the 12th between Hobart and Saint Joseph's with the Hawks holding a slim 6-5 series edge. However, the Statesmen lead SJU 4-2 in games played in Philly. Each of the past four and six of the past eight games between Hobart and Saint Joseph's have been decided by a single goal, including five overtime affairs.
