FAIRFAX, Va.—The Hobart College rowing team was in action today at the Occoquan Collegiate Invitational. The regatta was hosted by the Naval Academy on the Occoquan Reservoir.
The regatta was contested in cooler temperatures with a fairly consistent headwind that picked up as the race day progressed. The wind speeds ranged from 12-15 miles per hour with a slight current against the crews.
Hobart's varsity eight was on the water first. The Statesmen, who are receiving votes in the latest IRA Men's Heavyweight Varsity Eight Poll, were paired against Saint Joseph's.

Cameron Kumagai powered Hobart's top boat down the 2,000-meter course to a seven-second victory. Hobart stopped the clock with a time of 6:59.7. The Hawks crossed the line with a time of 7:06.2.
As the winner of its heat, the Statesmen were drawn into the afternoon's A Final with No. 12 Navy, No. 16 Drexel and No. 23 Georgetown. The Midshipman won the final, stopping the clock with a time of 6:31.5. The Dragons, the Hoyas and Hobart rounded out the field. MacDonald, Marchart, Sickmuller, Berzon, Drake, Palmer, Carella, Madden and Kumagai stopped the clock at 7:05.2.
Hobart's second varsity eight was also paired with Saint Joseph's in the morning heats. The Hawks pulled away for a four-second victory.

In the B Final, the Statesmen were paired with Holy Cross, Jacksonville and Marietta. The Crusaders crossed the line first with a time of 7:06.9. Hobart was second six seconds later.
The Statesmen also entered a varsity four in the regatta. Hobart took on Marietta in the morning. Reed Bluestein,

Andrew Painton traversed the 2,000 meter course with a time of 8:19.2. The Pioneers stopped the clock at 8:12.5.
"In the morning all of the boats had good hard racing and handled the conditions well," Assistant
James Konopka said. "In the afternoon, all the crews had to deal with big gusts of wind that made the racing even more challenging."
