SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—For the 16th consecutive year, the Liberty League Men's Rowing Championship plaque will make the journey back to Geneva, New York with the Hobart College rowing team. The Statesmen won gold medals in all three events they entered on their way to capturing the conference championship.

The 2022 Liberty League Championship was decided by the winner of the varsity eight race. Hobart also entered a second varsity eight and a novice four in today's regatta.

Since the Liberty League sponsored the first men's rowing championship in 2004, the Statesmen's varsity eight has never been beaten, collecting 17 gold medals. The 2004 league champion was decided by a points system and the Statesmen finished second overall.

Today, Hobart's varsity eight of Sawyer MacDonald, Zachary Berzon, Anthony Carella, Mo Marchart, Will Drake, Conrad Palmer, Cameron Kumagai, Sean Madden and Alex Sickmuller extended Hobart's dynasty finishing first in a field of six teams. The Statesmen, who are receiving votes in this week's Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll, powered down the 2,000-meter course with a time of 6:01.070. Ithaca stopped the clock 3.410 seconds later. St. Lawrence rounded out the podium.

Hobart's second varsity eight grabbed its 11th consecutive gold medal at the conference championship regatta, dominating the men's collegiate 2V8 race. Jackson Abreu, Brogan Dietsche, Aiden Vanek, Ryan Mulflur Aidan Spencer, Jake Hodge, Bryce Miltenberger, Ian McLelland and Eric Koon raced down the Fish Creek Course, posting a time of 6:22.020. Rochester was second 19.693 seconds later.

The Statesmen also won a gold medal in the novice four race, beating Union in a head-to-head competition. St. John Fisher was scheduled to compete in the race but was scratched. Hannah Bilton, Kevin Frost, Michael Gilbert, Jake Shue and Andrew Painton turned in a time of 7:33.070. The Dutchmen crossed the line just over 39 seconds later. It was Hobart's third gold medal in the novice four and first since 2007.

The Statesmen will be back in action Sunday, May 1, when they head to West Windsor, New Jersey. The Statesmen will take on Columbia and Navy.
