#8/7 Herons host Vassar in regular season finale

The nationally-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team will wrap up its regular season on Saturday, April 30, when it welcomes Vassar College to Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium. Opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
 
Fans who cannot make the trip to Urick Stadium can follow all the action with HWS All-Acces and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7) in Geneva.
 
The Herons are 14-1 overall this season and are 9-0 in Liberty League play. Winners of 10 straight, William Smith locked up at least a share of the regular season title and home field advantage in the Liberty League Tournament with a 14-8 win over Union last Saturday. The Herons enter the weekend averaging 15.87 goals per game while surrendering a mere 6.93. William Smith is ranked eighth in the nation in winning percentage (.933), 13th in scoring defense, 15th in scoring margin (+8.93), 19th in turnovers per game (14.33) and 24th in assists per game (7.73) and points per game (23.60).
 
The Herons are led offensively by Allie McGinty's 72 points on 28 goals and 44 assists. She leads the Liberty League and is 19th in the nation in assists and is 20th in the nation in assists per game (2.93).  McGinty is tied for third on William Smith's single-season assists list and is tied for 16th on the points list. Maddie Montgomery has a team-high 54 goals and adds 11 assists for 65 points. She leads the Liberty in goals per game. Montgomery is tied for 11th on the single-season goals list. Anna Murphy adds 56 points on 46 goals and 10 assists. Montgomery has a team-best 79 draw controls, second on the single-season list, Payton McMahon 25 caused turnovers and Kate Risley leads the way with 34 ground balls.
 
Maura Smeader has played the majority of the minutes in goal, starting all 15 games. She is 14-1 with a 6.82 goals against average and a .473 save percentage. She leads the Liberty League and is 11th in the nation in GAA.
 
Tomorrow's game will be the final regular season home game for seniors Payton McMahon, Anna Murphy and Kelsie Worth. They have guided the Herons to a 44-11 overall record, two Liberty League Championships and two NCAA tournament appearances. A fifth-year senior, Murphy has compiled a 59-16 record in her time in Geneva.
 
Vassar is 4-10 overall with a 2-7 mark in Liberty League play this season and enters Saturday's contest following a 16-8 loss to St. Lawrence University. Ashley Roberts leads the team with 32 points on 19 goals and 13 assists. Maddy Kretten leads the team with 26 goals while Kateri Sanseviro has notched 22 goals. Trina Chou has a team-best 29 draw controls and Reilly Mulcahy leads with 17 caused turnovers and 25 ground balls. Lauren Johns has played the majority of the minutes in goal, playing in 13 games and starting eight. She is 3-7 with a 13.68 GAA and a .422 save percentage.
 
This will be the 20th meeting between William Smith and Vassar. The Herons hold a 17-2 advantage against the Brewers, including a 10-0 mark in Geneva. William Smith has won the last four meetings but the teams have not met since 2019.
