#9/5 William Smith begins road trip at Rochester

The nationally-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team begins a three-game road trip Saturday, April 9, when it travels to Rochester, New York, to take on the University of Rochester in a Liberty League matchup. Opening draw in the Flower City is set for 2 p.m. at Fauver Stadium.
 
The Herons are 9-1 overall this season with a 4-0 mark in conference play. William Smith extended its winning streak to five games with a 22-4 victory over RIT on Wednesday. The Herons enter the weekend ranked in the top 25 in the nation in winning percentage (15th, .900), turnovers per game (19th, 13.60), scoring defense (21st, 6.90) and scoring margin (24th, +8.50). On the offensive end of the field, the Herons are averaging 15.40 goals per game.
 
The Herons are led offensively by Allie McGinty and Maddie Montgomery who have 49 and 41 points, respectively. McGinty leads the team with 32 assists and Montgomery has a team-high 34 goals. Montgomery also leads the team with 52 draw controls. Kate Risley has a team-best 17 caused turnovers and Katherine Murray has a team-leading 25 ground balls. McGinty leads the Liberty League and is 11th in the nation in assists and assists per game (3.20).  She is sixth on William Smith's single-season assist list, one behind Amy Hoover '95, who had 33 assists in 1992. Hoover holds the record with 52 assists in her senior season.
 
Maura Smeader has played the majority of time in goal, starting all 10 games. She is 9-1 with a 6.73 goals against average and a .481 save percentage. She leads the Liberty League and is 15th in the nation in goals against average.
 
The Yellowjackets bring a 5-4 overall record and 2-3 mark in conference play into the weekend. Rochester has been idle since a 15-13 win over Nazareth on April 1. Gracie Giannettino leads the team with 41 points on 32 goals and nine assists. Lucy Haggerty has a team-best 19 helpers. Grace Crochiere leads the team with 32 ground balls and 39 draw controls. Ava Saffren has started all nine games in goal. She is 5-4 with a 14.82 goals against average and a .385 save percentage.
 
This will be the 47th meeting between William Smith and Rochester. The Herons are 43-3 against the Yellowjackets, including an 18-2 mark in Rochester. William Smith has won the last seven meetings.
