Hobart College senior rower
Mo Marchart was named the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Marchart is the first Statesman to win the award.
Â
The Scholar-Athlete Award is given to the athlete with the strongest combination of academic and athletic accomplishments.
Â
"Mo embodies the very essence of a scholar-athlete as he has diligently applied himself in combining the best qualities from each area of his life into a remarkable year and career," Hobart Head Rowing Coach
Paul Bugenhagen said. "His outstanding academic achievements are resulting in exciting professional opportunities post-graduation and he has had a historic athletic career earning three MVPs and was a NIRC champion."
Â
Marchart graduated magna cum laude in May with a bachelor's degree in economics. He was a double minor in mathematics and Mandarin. Marchart wracked up the academic awards during his four seasons. He was a three-time Liberty League and IRA all-academic selection and was named an IRCA Scholar-Athlete and NIRC All-Academic twice.
Â
On campus, Marchart was inducted into the Druid, Chimera, and Orange Key honor societies, the three major Hobart honor societies. At the 2021 Blackwell-Hale Academic Achievement Awards celebration, he was inducted into the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Honor Society as a junior. In March, Marchart along with William Kline '23 and Brendon Bennett '23 won the Todd Feldman '89 and Family Pitch contest for their biomaterials company Fibrworks.
Â
On the water, Marchart was a member of the varsity eight in each of his four years on campus. He was named to three Liberty League Crews of the Year. Marchart won a gold medal with Hobart's top boat at the conference championship regatta three times and won a gold medal at the NIRC regatta as a first-year. As a sophomore, he was named a College All-American Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year and was named an IRCA All-America honorable mention as a junior.
Â
Marchart won the S. Ford Weiskittel Rowing Award as the team's most valuable oarsman three times. As a first year, he was presented the Rookie Award for Rowing and took home the Abe Solomon Memorial Award as Hobart's department-wide rookie of the year.
