#14 Bobcats edge #24 Statesmen 6-3

GENEVA, N.Y.—The 24th-ranked Hobart College Squash team dropped a tightly contested match to 14th-ranked Bates College 6-3 at the Smith Squash Center this afternoon.
 
KEY STATS:
  • Each team had one 3-0 victory.
  • Six of the nine matches went to four games and one went to five.
  • Hobart is 3-6 overall this season and Bates is 7-1.
 
MATCH MOMENTS:
  • Junior Omar Kiwan notched his team-leading sixth win of the season. Playing at No. 2, he topped Jonathan Walker, 8-11, 11-3, 11-2, 11-6. Kiwan is 5-3 in the No. 2 spot.
  • Junior Hussein Labib swept, Harris Ramlee, 11-8, 11-8, 13-11, at No. 3. Labib is 5-3 overall on the year, playing all eight matches in the No. 3 spot.
  • At No. 4, sophomore Joseph Raskin Lantos knocked off Ashton Monteiro, 6-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-9. The victory was Raskin Lantos' fourth win of the season.
  • Despite falling in four games, Sebi De La Vega had a strong match in the No. 1 spot. He was edged, 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 19-17.
  • First-year Sayf Elhawary's match went to five games, but he was edged by Jairaj Singh, 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-5 at No. 7.
 
UP NEXT:
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 14, when it begins a three-game road trip in Carlisle, Pennsylvania against Dickinson. The Statesmen will also take on No. 15 Franklin and Marshall and No. 25 Navy during their trip.
