GENEVA, N.Y.—The 13th-ranked William Smith College squash team was edged by 16th-ranked Bowdoin College 5-4 in a tightly contested match at the Smith Squash Center today. The Herons are now 5-2 on the season and Bowdoin is 7-3.
KEY STATS:
- Four of the nine matches went to five games with Bowdoin claiming three of them.
- Both teams had two 3-0 sweeps.
MATCH MOMENTS:
- Rafaela Albuja Sanchez improved to 5-2 overall on the season with an 11-2, 11-6, 11-3 victory over Emma Kate Watts-Roy at No. 1.
- Anna O'Connor also swept her opponent, beating Skyler Spaulding 11-5, 11-9, 15-13 at No. 5. O'Connor leads the team with six wins this season.
- In the No. 3 spot, Marce Marquez Martinez rallied to defeat Caroline Glasser, 10-12, 12-10, 11-5, 11-8. Marquez Martinez is 5-2 this season.
- Jada Smith-Padmore also had a come-from-behind victory at No. 7. She dropped the first two games but rallied to defeat Mira Karande, 10-12, 8-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-7. Smith-Padmore is 5-2 on the year with a 2-0 mark in the No. 7 spot.
- Laila Selim had the closest match of the day, dropping a hard-fought battle to Amanda Cowhey, 11-6, 7-11, 11-2, 10-12, 11-6.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 10, when it welcomes No. 22 Bates to the Smith Squash Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
