Herons begin homestand against Houghton Thursday

The William Smith College field hockey team will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 5, for a non-conference matchup against Houghton University to open a three-game homestand for the Herons. The game is set to start at 6 p.m. on McCooey Field.
 
Fans who cannot make it to McCooey Field can follow all the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The games will also be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith (5-5) aims to bounce back from a 3-1 conference loss to Vassar on Saturday. Senior Libby Maxwell scored the lone goal for the Herons.
  • Junior Rebecca Mantione (4G, 3A) leads the Herons with 11 points, followed by senior Sofia Patillo (3G, 2A) with eight points. Seniors Libby Maxwell (3G, 1A) and Alaura Enright (3G, 1A) have recorded five points each. 
  • Senior Kristen McCormick has a slight edge in minutes in goal for the Herons, securing a 1.86 GAA, a .657 save percentage, and a 4-3 record. Fellow senior Brittany Foster is 1-2, with a 1.76 GAA, a .632 save percentage and one shutout. 
ABOUT THE HIGHLANDERS:
  • Houghton (8-1) is coming off a 4-2 victory over Russell Sage College on Saturday.
  • Davie Bekah (14G, 1A) leads the Highlanders with 29 points.
  • Annika Galen has played a majority of the minutes in goal for Houghton and has a 0.66 GAA, an .800 save percentage and five shutouts. 
ABOUT THE SERIES:
  • Thursday's matchup will be the 20th meeting between the Herons and the Highlanders. 
  • William Smith leads the series 17-2, including a 9-1 edge in Geneva. 
  • This will be the first matchup between the teams since 2003.
