HARTFORD, Conn.—The Hobart College squash team concluded its 2022-23 season at the College Squash Association Team National Championships this afternoon. With a 1-2 overall record on the weekend, the Statesmen finished fourth in the Summers Cup, C Division, and 20th overall. Hobart concludes its season with an 11-11 overall record.
On Saturday, in the semifinals, Hobart was defeated by Amherst College 7-2. This afternoon, the Statesmen were beaten by Massachusetts Institute of Technology 5-4 in a tightly contested match.
KEY FACTS
- In the match against the Mammoths, Hobart had a 3-0 sweep and a 3-1 victory. Amherst had four 3-0 sweeps and three 3-1 victories.
- Against the Engineers, MIT had three sweeps, a 3-2 victory and a 3-1 win. Hobart earned all four of its points 3-1.
AMHERST MATCH
- Junior Omar Kiwan knocked off Kedar Nagraj, 11-8, 14-12, 11-4. It was Kiwan's team-leading 15th win of the season. He wrapped up the season with a 15-7 overall record, including a 6-3 mark in the No. 1 spot. He was also 2-0 against Nagraj on the year.
- Junior Sebi De La Vega bested Adam Lichtmacher, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, at No. 2. It was his eighth win of the year.
- Despite being swept, senior James Mazzarelli put up a hard fight at No. 8. He dropped a hard-fought match, 11-7, 12-10, 11-9.
- In the No. 4 spot, sophomore Joseph Raskin Lantos, was tripped up by Neal Malani, 3-11, 14-12, 11-4, 18-16.
MIT MATCH
- Raskin Lantos picked up his 12th win of the season, defeating Robert Albani, 6-11, 11-4, 12-10, 11-3, at No. 4. Raskin Lantos finishes the season with a 12-6 overall record, including an 11-6 mark at No. 4.
- In the No. 3 spot, junior Hussein Labib defeated Collin Wen, 8-11, 11-5, 11-2, 11-9. Labib wraps up the season with an 11-10 record with all 11 wins coming in the No. 3 spot.
- Mazzarelli wrapped up the season with an 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 11-5, win over Saechow Yap at No. 8. It was Mazzarelli's 12th win of the year.
- Senior Giacomo Dalle Molle was up 2-1 and leading 7-0 in the fourth game when his opponent retired. Dalle Molle concluded his senior year with eight wins.
- Sophomore Roberto Vega was tripped up by Nikhil Kakarla, 7-11, 13-11, 12-10, 11-3, 11-6 at No. 5. The win clinched the victory for the Engineers.

While the team has concluded its campaign, some Statesmen will return to the court next weekend, March 3-5, when they head to Philadelphia for the College Squash Association Individual Championships.
