2/27/2023 4:29:00 PM

GENEVA, N.Y.–The Hobart College lacrosse team will renew one of the oldest and longest running rivalries in collegiate sports when it hosts No. 3 Cornell University Tuesday, Feb. 28. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Boswell Field at Urick Stadium.

The game will be webcast on HWS All-Access and broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva). Live stats will also be available on HWSAthletics.com.

Hobart and Cornell will square off for the 140th time since the Statesmen played their very first varsity game on May 5, 1898, defeating the Big Red 2-1 in Ithaca. Cornell leads the all-time series 88-47-4.

Hobart improved to 2-1 this season with a 10-8 victory at Colgate on Saturday. Junior goalie Loukas Sotiropoulos matched his career-high with 17 saves to earn the win, while junior attackman Anthony Dattellas paced the offense with three goals and an assist.

The Big Red, who reached the 2022 NCAA Championship game, are off to a 2-0 start, including a 12-5 win over Lehigh on Saturday. Senior attackman Billy Coyle and junior attackman CJ Kirst each registered three goals and an assist against the Mountain Hawks.

Last year, Cornell defended its home field, defeating Hobart 15-12. Coyle led the Big Red offense, while attackman John Herlihy paced the Statesmen. Both players finished the night with four goals and an assist for five points.
