Hobart golf heads to Liberty League Championships

4/27/2023 11:28:00 AM

The Hobart College golf team will travel to Verona, New York, for the Liberty League Championships this weekend April 28-30. The three-day tournament will be held at Turning Stone Resort's Shenendoah Course with start times on Friday at noon, Saturday at noon, and Sunday at 11 a.m.

First-year Charlie Craig leads the Statesmen with an 80.2 scoring average, while first-year Jake Romney follows closely behind at 82.9 after 13 rounds of play this season.

Craig led the Statesmen in the fall, posting three top-10 finishes. At the Elmira Invitational, he posted his season-best second place finish at five strokes over par. Craig posted his lowest score at the Pitt-Bradford Invitation on Sept. 3, when he tied for third at four over.

Romney has had his best appearances on the links this spring, leading Hobart in its two events in 2023. He was 13 over at both the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational and the Fred Kravetz Invitational. Romney carded a season-low 73 in the first round of the Brown Invite.

Along with Craig and Romney, junior Mark Hanlon, sophomore Andrew Winch and sophomore Matthew McCann will participate at the Liberty League Championships, completing the Statesmen team.

Last year, Hobart finished seventh at the Liberty League Championships, posting a combined team score of +101. None of the Statesmen competing in this year's championships competed in last year's competition.
