Hobart first-year Troy Gregg was named the Liberty League Men's Golf Rookie of the Week following an impressive performance at the McDaniel Spring Invitational over the weekend. The rookie of the week award was the first of Gregg's collegiate career.
Gregg led Hobart to a third place finish out of 10 teams at the two-day invitational. Individually, he led the Statesmen with a fourth-place finish in the 50-golfer field. On Saturday, Gregg shot two over par and was two shots off the lead. He followed that up with a +6 showing in Sunday's closing round to conclude the invitational eight over through 36 holes. Gregg's score of 152 was just four strokes off the lead.
The Boston, Massachusetts, native has had a strong start to his collegiate career. Gregg has produced three top four finishes, including runner-up finishes at the Oswego State Fall Invite and the Pitt-Bradford Kickoff Classic. He currently has a 75.6 stroke average through nine rounds, which is second on the team.
Hobart will be back in action April 11-12 when it travels to Ballston Spa, New York, to compete in Skidmore's Tim Brown Invitational. The two-day tournament will begin at 9 a.m. at Ballston Spa Country Club.
