The William Smith College rowing team checked in at No. 15 in this week's Pocock CRCA Division III Coaches poll. It is the first time the Herons have been ranked since April 2021.
Â
William Smith, which was receiving votes in the preseason poll, opened its spring season last weekend in Ithaca, New York. The Herons took on Ithaca College and Washington College on the Cayuga inlet. The varsity eight boat lost their first race against eighth-ranked Bombers and won their second race against the Shorewomen by just two seconds. The second varsity eight also lost to the Bombers but beat the Shorewomen by a commanding 29-seconds. Lastly, the varsity four had one race against the Bombers and they pulled away with a 15-second victory.
Â
Saturday, the Herons travel back to the Cayuga Inlet to take on the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology. The Yellowjackets are ranked just above the Herons at 13. Last weekend, Rochester swept the Tigers. Racing will begin at 10:05 a.m. in Ithaca.
