For the second straight week, the William Smith rowing team's second varsity eight was named the Liberty League Boat of the Week. This is the fourth straight week that the seventh-ranked Herons have been recognized by the league office.
 
William Smith's 2V, which was powered by Michaela Greco, Olivia Helms, Lily Liflander, Alessandra Gialanella, Paige Barnhart, Ainsley Kimball, Mariee Voss, Alayna Wian and Olivia Sainsbury, finished second in a 14-boat field at the New York State Collegiate Championships on Saturday. In their morning heat, William Smith took on Albany, Rochester and Army. The Herons won their heat, powering down the 2,000-meter Fish Creek course, stopping the clock at 7:24.5. The victory secured the 2V a place in the grand final.
 
In the afternoon, William Smith took on Marist, Colgate, Hamilton, Albany and Smith. At the 250-meter mark, the Herons and Marist pulled away from the field and battled bow-to-stern down the course. The Red Foxes distanced themselves from William Smith at the sprint, but the Herons claimed silver medals, posting a time of 7:42.9.
 
The Herons will be back in action May 1, when it heads back to Saratoga Springs, New York, for the Liberty League Championship.
