The Hobart College basketball team was handsomely rewarded for its accomplishments in the classroom and on the court when the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced its annual academic awards today. The Statesmen earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award while a record six individuals were named to the NABC Honors Court.
"It's great to be recognized by the NABC and I'm happy for our student-athletes to receive this honor," Hobart Head Coach
Stefan Thompson '13 said. "All of them committed extra time and effort to perform well in the classroom, utilizing all of the resources our campus has to offer. Our program takes a lot of pride in academics because we know at some point the ball will stop bouncing for all of us. We plan to sustain this excellence in the classroom so our futures can be as bright as possible."
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes men's basketball programs that completed the 2022-23 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court celebrates juniors, seniors and graduate students who finished the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
As a team, Hobart posted a 3.4 GPA last year, including a 3.55 during the spring semester.
The six members of the Honors Court surpassed the Hobart season record set in 2014 when five players earned the distinction. The following Statesmen were named to this year's Honors Court:
Since 2012, Hobart basketball players have been named to the NABC Honors Court 24 times.
The Statesmen posted a 17-10 record during the 2022-23 season. Hobart went 12-6 in Liberty League play, finishing third in the conference standings.
