#23 William Smith travels to Cortland Saturday

The William Smith College field hockey team will be back in action this weekend when it heads to Cortland, New York, to take on SUNY Cortland on Saturday. The nonconference matchup is set for 1 p.m. at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters Saturday's contest with a 4-2 record after a 3-0 win over Nazareth University on Wednesday.
  • Senior Libby Maxwell was named the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week after three strong performances last week, recording four points on two goals.
  • Senior Sofia Pattillo earned a spot on the Liberty League weekly honor roll after recording four points on two goals against Lebanon Valley.
  • Pattillo leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists, followed by junior Rebecca Mantione with six points on two goals and two assists.
  • Senior Kristen McCormick has an edge in minutes played in goal and is 3-2 on the season. She has a 1.73 GAA and a .680 save percentage.
ABOUT THE RED DRAGONS:
  • Cortland enters the weekend with a 3-0 record after defeating Ithaca 3-1 in a nonconference matchup on Wednesday.
  • Gianna Trunfio leads the Red Dragons with eight points on four goals.
  • Emma Morgan leads Cortland in goal. She is 3-0 with a 1.04 GAA, an .813 save percentage and one shutout.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Saturday's matchup will be the 59th meeting between the Herons and the Red Dragons.
  • Cortland leads the series 35-22-1, with a 19-6 edge at home.
  • In their last meeting on Sept. 17, 2022, William Smith defeated Cortland 3-1 in Geneva. Pattillo scored the opening goal while Mantione chipped in three points on a goal and an assist. McCormick played all 60 minutes in the cage, recording five saves.
