#17 Herons cruise past #20 Saints 8-1

CANTON, N.Y.—The 17th-ranked William Smith College squash team cruised to an 8-1 victory over 20th-ranked St. Lawrence University at the Robbie Squash Center this afternoon. Sophomore Nathalie Sim clinched the overall victory as the Herons won their fourth straight match.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • William Smith is now 5-2 on the season.
  • The Saints fall to 4-3 on the year.
 
MATCH SUMMARY
  • The Herons won five of their nine points in 3-0 sweeps.
  • In the No. 2 spot, Laila Selim knocked off Margaret Fleischner, 11-2, 11-3, 11-3. It was Selim's fourth win of the season.
  • Rafaela Albuja Sanchez notched her fourth straight besting Anannya Morey, 11-2, 11-3, 11-3, at No. 1. Albuja Sanchez is 5-2, playing all seven matches in the top spot.
  • Lark Ervasti topped Tita Hicks, 11-2, 11-3, 11-1 at No. 8. Ervasti is 4-2 this season, including a 4-0 record in the No. 8 spot.
  • At No. 4, Anna O'Connor logged an 11-1, 11-6, 11-4 victory over Ulrikke Bore Ribesen. O'Connor is now 3-1 on the season, playing all four matches at No. 4.
  • Sim beat Madeleine Martin, 11-5, 11-2, 11-5. Sim is tied for the team lead with five wins. This is the second straight match in which she secured the match-clinching point.
  • Jada Smith-Padmore and Diya Moolani logged 3-1 victories at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Smith-Padmore defeated Petra DeRose, 11-13, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4. Moolani won 11-2, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4. It was their fourth victories of the season.
  • In one of the closer matches of the day, Shante Frank edged Laura Franz, 11-1, 11-7, 3-11, 11-13, 11-9.
 
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 19, when it takes on Wesleyan University. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. at Hamilton College.
