#17 Herons soar past #24 Cardinals 7-2

CLINTON, N.Y.—The 17th-ranked William Smith College squash team defeated 24th-ranked Wesleyan University 7-2 at Hamilton College's Little Squash Center. Yesterday's victory was the Herons' fifth straight victory.

  • William Smith is 6-2 overall this season.

MATCH SUMMARY
  • In the No. 1 spot, Rafaela Albuja Sanchez picked up her team-leading sixth win of the season. She defeated Mira Bakshi, 11-4, 11-2, 11-4. Albuja Sanchez is 6-2 on the year.
  • At No. 2, Laila Selim swept Avika Pande, 11-9, 11-8, 11-3. Selim is now 5-3. She has played all eight matches in the second spot.
  • Nathalie Sim won her third straight match, besting Penelope Furnas, 11-3, 11-8, 11-4. Sim is 5-2 this season.
  • In the No. 4 spot, Anna O'Connor knocked off Aanya Amad, 11-7, 11-2, 12-10. It was O'Connor's fourth win of the year.
  • Diya Moolani also logged a 3-0 sweep. Se won 11-7, 13-11, 11-7 over Laila Kewalramani in the No. 6 spot.
  • Shante Frank rallied for a 7-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-7 win in the seventh spot. It was Frank's fifth win of the year. She has won five straight matches and is 5-0 in the No. 7 spot.
  • In the closest match of the day, Jessica Finnerty rallied to beat Marangela James, 8-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4. Finnerty is 4-4 this season.
