#17 Herons soar past #25 Mules

The 17th-ranked William Smith College squash team knocked off 25th-ranked Colby College 7-2 at the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center this afternoon.
 
The Herons won in the top spot and picked up victories in the bottom six spots of the ladder. The Mules won at No. 2 and No. 3. Four of the nine matches were decided in 3-0 sweeps.

FOR THE HERONS
  • At No. 4, Anna O'Connor swept India Spencer, 11-8, 11-4, 11-3. It was O'Connor's first win of the season and 20th of her William Smith career.
  • Jada Smith-Padmore beat Amanda Miller, 11-13, 11-8, 11-4, 11-3, at No. 5. She is 2-2 on the season.
  • Diya Moolani and Shante Frank also won 3-1 at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Moolani beat Karla Domingues, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-4, and Frank beat Love, 7-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-5.
  • Lark Ervasti and Jessica Finnerty picked up 3-0 sweeps at No. 8 and No. 9. Ervasti won 11-0, 11-2, 11-5 and Finnerty won 11-2, 11-2, 11-3.
  • In the No. 1 spot, Rafaela Albuja Sanchez was down 8-5 in the first game but won when her opponent retired.
 
FOR THE MULES
  • Andrea Lee Ja Qi won 3-0 at No. 2
  • Abisheka David, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8, in the No. 3 spot.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 9, when it takes on Bates College in Lewiston. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
