BOSTON, Mass.—The Hobart rowing team opened its 2024-25 season at the Head of the Charles this afternoon. The Statesmen's varsity eight finished 14th in the Men's Collegiate Eight race.

Tibor Teleki. They traversed the Charles River course with a time of 15:10.309. The Statesmen's 14th place finish was a 15-place improvement from last year.
ABOUT THE REGATTA
Now in its 59th year, the Head of the Charles is one of the largest regattas in the world. Boats race down a 3-mile route on the Charles River, which separates Boston from Cambridge. Teams row from Boston University's DeWolfe Boathouse to just short of Northeastern University's Henderson Boathouse.
INSIDE THE RACE
- Hobart was the 26th boat to start and passed several crews on the water, including Ithaca which started directly in front of them.
- The Statesmen turned in the 13th fastest time at the Riverside Boathouse, clocking in at 3:25.825.
- Hobart also had the 13th fastest time at the Weld Boathouse, stopping the clock at 8:18.032.
- The Statesmen fell back to 14th at the Cambridge Boat Club, posting a time of 12:34.918.
- With the 14th place finish, Hobart secured its place in next year's regatta, finishing in the top half of the field.
ALUMNI RACE
- Hobart also entered an eight in the Men's Alumni Eight Race on Saturday.
- The Statesmen finished 18th in the 47-crew field.
- Matthew Sylvan '17, Jackson Baney '21, Julian Green '16, Anthony Carella '22, Ryan Mulflur '24, David Ranney '21, Moritz Marchart '22, Patrick Overton '20, and Stephen Ponticiello '21 powered the Hobart eight to a time of 15.34.764.
UP NEXT
Hobart will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 26, when it hosts the annual Challenge on the Canal to conclude its fall racing season. Racing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
