The Hobart and William Smith cross country teams are set to travel to Fredonia this weekend to compete in the NCAA Niagara Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 16. The women's 6-kilometer race will begin at 11 a.m., with the men's 8-kilometer race to follow at noon.

The Statesmen are looking to improve upon their 19th place finish in last year's championship hosted in Houghton. Junior Sean Mucheru is Hobart's top returner from the 2023 championships. He stopped the clock at 27:26.9 to finish 99th out of 176 runners last year.

Earlier this month, first-year Duncan Kipkoech led the Statesmen at the Liberty League Championships, finishing at 28:20.0 for a 75th place finish in his first collegiate conference championship. Kipkoech was followed by classmate Evan Shannon who finished in 84th and Mucheru in 85th.

The Herons are looking to build on last year's 15th place team finish at Houghton. William Smith was led by Hope Johnson, who secured an 83rd place finish with her season-best time of 24:21.5.

Johnson has continued to pace the Herons in her junior season and will look to use her race experience and leadership to push William Smith to a strong finish. She won the CCOC Championship on Oct. 19, recording a time of 24:42.9.

First-year Bella Miller has found her stride this season and will look to push the pace for William Smith in the championship race. She earned her season-best 6k time at the CCOC Championships, clocking in at 25:54.6 for a third-place finish.
