First-year trio leads Hobart at NCAA Regionals

FREDONIA, N.Y. –First-year Duncan Kipkoech led the Hobart cross country team as it concluded its season at the NCAA Niagara Regional Championships this afternoon. The Statesmen finished 17th out of 22 teams in the men's 8-kilometer race with 537 points.

Kipkoech was the first Statesman to cross the finish line this afternoon when he stopped the clock at 27:28.8 to claim 73rd place in the 170-runner field. His time of 27:28.8 was the second fastest 8k time of his rookie season.

First-year's Evan Shannon and Philip Dilgard-Clark rounded out the top three finishers for Hobart. Shannon raced to a 124th place finish after stopping the clock at 29:13.1, while Dilgard-Clark finished in 129th with a time of 29:25.7.

New York University won this year's team championship with 29 team points and produced five of the top 10 finishers in the 8k race. SUNY Geneseo followed closely behind in second with 30 points and three top 10 finishers. Geneseo's Charlie Wilson was the meets individual medalist after stopping the clock at 24:51.8, roughly five seconds before teammate and runner up Alex Hillyard (24:56.5).
