NCAA FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Statesmen head south to battle #6 River Hawks

Hobart will make its 11th appearance in the NCAA Division III Football Championship when the Statesmen visit Susquehanna Saturday, Nov. 30. The second round matchup in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, is scheduled to kickoff at noon.
 
Tickets are $8 for general admission, $4 for students/children (ages 2-10). Advance sale tickets can be purchased online at suriverhawks.com/tix or on game day at the Doug Arthur Stadium ticket gates. Gates open at 10:30 a.m.
 
The game will be webcast on ESPN+. WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3) will broadcast the game with Ted Baker describing the action and David Gage '91 offering analysis.
 
HOW WE GOT HERE
  • Hobart finished the regular season with a 9-1 overall record. The Statesmen earned their spot in the 40-team tournament by winning the Liberty League Championship with a perfect 6-0 record.
  • Susquehanna also went 9-1 in the regular season. The River Hawks secured their spot in the playoffs by winning the Landmark Conference with an unblemished 6-0 record.

  • Susquehanna's offense has put up eye popping numbers. The River Hawks are averaging more than twice as many yards per game (537.7) than Hobart allows.
 
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE, II
  • The Statesmen are third in the nation in net punting, averaging 40.84 net yards per punt.
  • SU leads the nation in punt return average (24.24).
  • Hobart junior punter Vicente Lyon is third in the nation, averaging 43.6 yards per punt.
  • River Hawks first-year Rahshan La Mons is averaging 32.73 yards per punt return (11 returns) and leads the nation with three punt returns for touchdowns.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
  • The Hobart-Susquehanna winner will face the winner of No. 18 UW-Lacrosse at No. 3 St. John's in the third round on Dec. 7.
