The William Smith field hockey team is set to host Skidmore Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m. on McCooey Field in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament. The winner of the game will advance to the semifinal round at top-seeded Ithaca on Friday, Nov 8.
Fans who can't make it to McCooey Field can follow the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).Â
ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith finished the season fourth in the Liberty League standings. The Herons hold a record of 9-9, with a 4-3 mark in conference play.
- Senior Hannah Huston was named to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll after recording five points on two goals and one assist in Saturday's 5-0 win over SUNY Oswego.
- First-year Caroline Kogut leads the team with 27 points on 12 goals and three assists. She also has a team-leading four defensive saves on the year.
- Huston follows close behind with 18 points on six goals and six assists. She also leads the team with three game-winning-goals.
- Junior Abby Jones and first-year Mia Batchelder have also been key contributors for William Smith this season. Jones has 13 points on five goals and three assists, while Batchelder has 10 points on four goals and two assists.
- First-year Baker Jeremiah has played the majority of minutes in goal this season. She boasts a 1.76 goals against average and a .656 save percentage.
ABOUT THE THOROUGHBREDS:
- Skidmore finished fifth in the league standings with an overall record of 8-11 and a 2-5 record in league play.
- CC Wetter leads the Thoroughbreds with 27 points on 12 goals and three assists. Colby Paul follows close behind with 20 points on nine goals and two assists.
- Gillian Maher and Brooke Golden lead the team with three defensive saves each.
- Victoria Bodnar has played most of the minutes in goal this season. She has recorded a 1.90 GAA and a .794 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
- Tuesday's game will be the 40th matchup between the Herons and the Thoroughbreds.
- William Smith holds a 20-19 edge in the series, including a 13-5 record in Geneva.
- During the regular season, Skidmore defeated William Smith 1-0 in Geneva despite being outshot 17-6 by the Herons. Wetter scored the game-winning goal for the Thoroughbreds in the 51st minute to clinch the victory. Jeremiah made three saves in the loss.
