#2 Herons to face #7 Salisbury in Florida

The second-ranked William Smith lacrosse team will be back in action on Monday, March 18, when it heads to Panama City Beach, Florida, to take on seventh-ranked Salisbury. The top-10 showdown will be a part of the Spring Fling Women's Lacrosse event at Publix Sports Park. Opening Draw is scheduled for 8 p.m. (7 p.m. CT).
 
William Smith is 4-0 to start the year and already has wins over then seventh-ranked York 11-10 in OT and then 23rd-randed Cortland 14-5. The Herons have been idle since beating the Red Dragons last Saturday. Senior Maddie Montgomery and sophomore Hannah Evans had four goals each in the win.
 
The Sea Gulls enter the weekend with a 5-1 overall record. They beat fourth-ranked Gettysburg 16-7 on Wednesday, scoring the game's final 10 goals. Salisbury will host 16th-ranked Roanoke on Saturday.
 
Fans who cannot make the trip to Florida can follow the action with Live Stats. The game will be livestreamed courtesy of GKD and the New England Sports Network.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith enters the weekend seventh in the nation in draw control percentage (.663), 21st in scoring defense (6.50) and 25th in scoring margin (+7.75).
  • Montgomery leads the team with 18 goals and 20 points. She also has a team-high 22 draw controls and six caused turnovers.
  • Senior Allie McGinty leads the team with 13 assists and is second with 15 points.
  • Junior Maura Smeader has played every minute in goal. She is 4-0 with a 6.44 GAA and a .527 save percentage. Smeader is 11th in the nation in GAA and 23rd in save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE SEA GULLS
  • Salisbury enters their game against Roanoke ranked fifth in the nation in turnovers per game (11.50), 17th in shots per game (35.17) and 27th in scoring margin (+7.67).
  • The SeaGulls are led offensively by Mary Hanzsche who has 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points.
  • Camryn Pepper is right behind her with 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists. Leah Willow has a team-high 14 goals.
  • Natalie Held leads the way in the circle with 23 draw controls. Madeline Davis has 13 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
  • Kaitlyn Hunsinger has the edge in minutes played in goal. She is 5-1 with a 7.00 GAA and a .524 save percentage. Hunsinger is 15th in the country in GAA and 25th in save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Monday's game will be the fourth meeting between William Smtih and Salisbury.
  • The Series is deadlocked at 2-2. Both of the Sea Gulls wins have come in Florida.
  • The Herons won 12-9 last year in Sparks, Maryland. William Smith went on a 10-2 run in the final 31:35 to overcome a 7-2 deficit. Montgomery had four goals and senior Molly Davis also had a hat trick. Smeader made 13 saves, including six in the second half to secure the victory.
