Baseball to take on Rochester in weekend series

The Hobart baseball team will play a three-game series against the University of Rochester this weekend. The Yellowjackets will host Game 1 at 4 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Towers Field followed by a doubleheader at McDonough Park beginning at noon, Saturday, March 30.
 
All three games can be watched online. The game at Rochester will be pay-per-view on uofrathletics.com. The doubleheader will be a free webcast on HWS All-Access. Links to live stats for all three games can be found on the Hobart baseball schedule page.
 
SCOUTING THE STATESMEN
  • The Statesmen are 5-9 overall and looking for their first conference win after RIT swept a doubleheader from the Statesmen on Monday.
  • Sophomore Will Jones is on a tear this season. He leads the team with an impressive .415 batting average and a .585% slugging percentage and is tied for the team lead with 14 RBIs.
  • Senior Ty Gallagher is first on the team in hits (18) and doubles (6) and tied for the lead in triples (2) and RBIs.
  • Junior Griffin Snyder, sophomore Teck Nash and first-year Trevor Kimball have emerged as the team's top starting pitchers.
  • Opponents are hitting just .233 against Snyder.
  • Nash has thrown a team-high 21 2-3 innings, including a complete game shutout of Cobleskill.
  • Kimball is 2-0 with 18 strikeouts.
  • Junior Nicholas Franceschi is Hobart's top reliever, appearing is six games and recording a team-high 19 strikeouts.
 
SCOUTING THE YELLOWJACKETS
  • Rochester is 7-10 overall and took 2-of-3 from St. Lawrence to open conference play.
  • Senior Alec Ellison is hitting a team-leading .429 with 27 hits and 16 RBIs.
  • Classmate Jackson Reed paces the team with 10 doubles, 20 runs and 11 walks.
  • Seniors Dillon Bevan and Nolan Sparks are the Yellowjackets' top starting pitchers.
  • Bevan has a 3.00 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 18 innings.
  • Sparks has a team-high 25 strikeouts in 18 2-3 innings, limiting foes to a .179 batting average.
