For Hobart baseball player
Sam Oestreicher '27, a summer internship at the National Baseball Hall of Fame combines a lifelong passion with hands-on experience in sports and event management.
Based in Cooperstown, New York, Oestreicher is working at the Hall's as a public programming intern, leading museum tours, hosting trivia and welcoming guests from around the world.
His biggest project has been helping organize the Hall of Fame's annual All-Star Game Gala. As the event's emcee, he coordinated staff assignments, wrote scripts and helped keep the evening running smoothly.
"Every day is different," he says. "Being able to positively impact people's visits is so gratifying."
Oestreicher is also supporting the Hall's Induction Weekend, which will see Carlos Beltran, Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent officially join baseball immortality on July 26.
"It's been nothing short of remarkable," he says. "To be surrounded by baseball's greats, as a current collegiate baseball player and a lifetime fanatic, is a dream come true."
The experience is broadening his understanding of the sports industry and affirming his interest in a career creating memorable fan experiences. He was accepted into the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program thanks to equal parts preparation and serendipity.
"I met with HWS Career Services, who helped me identify what I'd like to do in my future. They also helped me fine-tune my resume and interview skills. But funny enough, I only heard about this internship because my sister, Olivia, sent the application link to me. I had no connection to anyone at the Hall of Fame. I just applied and interviewed."
Oestreicher has also contributed to the Hall's website and social media channels. Earlier this week, he was featured in a video about the tradition of Hall of Fame inductees signing the base that will hold their Hall of Fame plaque.
A catcher for the Statesmen, Oestreicher is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic Team member, double majoring in business management & entrepreneurship and politics. This past spring, Oestreicher and his teammates made history, winning a program record 32 games and earning the program's first two NCAA tournament wins.
