#2 Herons conclude homestand against Thoroughbreds

The second-ranked William Smith lacrosse team concludes its four-game homestand on Saturday, March 30, when it welcomes Liberty League rival Skidmore to Boswell Field at David J. Urick Stadium. Opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
The Herons are 8-0 overall with a 2-0 mark in conference play. William Smith is coming off a 16-5 victory over St. John Fisher on Wednesday. Senior Maddie Montgomery, who was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List on Thursday had seven points on five goals and two assists. She also had seven draw controls and two caused turnovers. Junior Maura Smeader played all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves.
 
The Thoroughbreds have a 4-5 overall record with a 2-1 record in Liberty League play. Skidmore is coming off a 15-4 victory over Vassar on Wednesday. Phoebe Ross led the Thoroughbreds with six points on six assists. Maddy Marr and Jillian Lockwood had four goals each. Liz Kazanjian played all 60 minutes in goal and made 14 saves.
 
Fans who cannot make the trip to Geneva can follow all the action with Live Stats and HWS All-Access Video. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • ​​Montgomery leads the team with 34 goals and 42 points. She has four of the eight game-winning goals.
  • Senior Allie McGinty leads the team with 19 assists and is second with 28 points.
  • Montgomery and sophomore Natalie Daniels are tied with 35 draw controls on the season.
  • Montgomery also leads the team with 12 caused turnovers. First-year Janey Sypeck has 11 caused turnovers.  
  • Smeader has played every minute in goal. She has a 6.60 GAA and a save percentage of .555. She is eighth in the nation in save percentage and 10th in GAA.
 
ABOUT THE THOROUGHBREDS:
  • Gabriella Modesti leads the team with 22 goals and 28 points.
  • Jillian Lockwood is right behind her with 21 points on 20 goals and an assist.
  • Phoebe Ross has a team-high 20 assists.
  • Maeve McKinley has 37 draw controls. Defender Lara Strunk leads the team with 9 caused turnovers.
  • Kazanjian and Isabella Iannone have split time in goal. Kazanjian is 4-1 with a 7.17 GAA and a .584 save percentage. Iannone is 0-4 with a 12.43 GAA and a .400 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the 30th meeting between William Smith and Skidmore.
  • The Herons lead the all-time series 25-4, including a 15-2 mark in Geneva.
  • William Smith has won nine straight games including an 18-7 win last year in Saratoga Springs. Montgomery finished with a game-high seven points. Smeader played all 60 minutes in goal, making five saves.
