#7 Herons face Vassar in regular season finale

The seventh-ranked William Smith lacrosse team will wrap up its regular season on Saturday, April 27, when it welcomes Vassar to Boswell Field for a Liberty League contest. The opening draw is scheduled for noon.
 
William Smith enters the weekend with a 14-2 overall record and an 8-1 mark in the Liberty League. The Herons are locked into the No. 2 spot in the conference standings. William Smith is coming off a 21-8 win at Rochester on Saturday.
 
The Brewers are 3-11 overall with a 2-7 mark in conference play. Vassar is currently 10th in the conference standings. The Brewers have lost three straight.

ABOUT WILLIAM SMITH
  • Senior Maddie Montgomery leads the team with 55 goals and 23 caused turnovers. She is second on the team with 47 draw controls.
  • Fellow senior Allie McGinty has 37 assists and is second on the team with 55 points.
  • Sophomore Natalie Daniels has 48 goals and 55 points.
  • The Herons' defense, which is 11th in the nation in scoring defense (7.13) is led by first-year Janey Sypeck, who has 20 caused turnovers and 20 ground balls. Junior Nicole Pio has 18 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.
  • Junior Maura Smeader has started 15 games in goal. She is 13-2 with a 7.48 GAA and a .504 save percentage. She is seventh in the nation in GAA and 12th in save percentage.
 
NATIONAL NUMBERS
  • In addition to scoring defense, the Herons are third in the nation in clearing percentage (.914), fifth in winning percentage (.875), sixth in turnovers per game (12.38), eighth in free position percentage (.573) and 16th in saves percentage (.504).
 
ABOUT THE BREWERS
  • Tess Billings leads Vassar with 22 goals and 30 points.
  • Emilia DiLiberto has 19 goals and 23 points. She leads the Brewers with 65 draw controls, 13 caused turnovers and 20 ground balls.
  • Lauren Johns has played a majority of the minutes in goal. She is 3-10 with a 14.07 GAA and a .417 save percentage. She has 17 ground balls.
