Statesmen head south to face #18 Spiders

The Hobart lacrosse team heads to Richmond, Virginia, this weekend to take on Atlantic 10 Conference rival Richmond on Saturday, April 6. The opening faceoff at Robins Stadium is scheduled for noon.
 
The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3). Online, the game will be webcast on ESPN+ with live stats available on richmondspiders.com.
 
Hobart is looking to rebound from a tough 13-12 loss to UMass last Saturday to open A10 play. Junior Will Delano led the Statesmen with five points on two goals and three assists against the Minutemen. Graduate student faceoff specialist Adam Shea won 11-of-17 faceoffs and collected a game-high eight ground balls for Hobart.
 
Richmond opened A10 action with a 19-8 win at St. Bonaventure. Aidan O'Neil (5g 2a) and Dalton Young (3g 4a) paced the Spiders with seven points apiece.
 
FOR THE RECORD
  • Hobart is 3-6 overall. This will be the Statesmen's fifth game against a ranked opponent this season.
  • Richmond, which is No. 18 in the coaches poll and No. 19 in the media poll, sports a 6-4 record.
 
SCOUTING THE STATESMEN
  • Hobart is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in man-down defense and faceoff winning percentage. The Statesmen are fourth when shorthanded, killing off 77.4% of the oppositions extra-man opportunities. Hobart is ninth at the faceoff X, winning 59.1% of the time.
  • Delano is tied for first in Division I in extra-man goals. He's one of three players with six man-up strikes this season. Classmate Alex Rosa is second in the A10 and 20th in the country with four extra-man goals.
  • Shea leads the A10 and is 15th in the nation in faceoff percentage, winning 58.9% at the X. Against UMass, he recorded his 600th career faceoff win. Shea is just the second Statesman to reach that milestone, joining Matthew Pedicine (618).
  • Hobart has seven players with 10 or more points this season, led by senior Athony Dattellas' 33 points on 19 goals and 14 assists. First-year Chris Patterson also has 19 goals to go with six assists.
 
IT'S BEEN A MINUTE
  • The Statesmen last played a lacrosse game in Richmond in 2008 when they faced Presbyterian in a neutral site contest. Hobart won that contest 19-4.
 
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS
  • Richmond is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in scoring defense (3rd, 8.80 gpg), scoring margin (3rd, +5.3 gpg) and scoring offense (10th, 14.1 gpg).
  • Goalie Zach Vigue is second in the nation in GAA (8.42) and fifth in save percentage (.593).
  • Young leads the offense with 26 goals, 26 assists and 52 points.
  • Faceoff specialist Jared Chenoy has won 53.1% and has corralled a team-high 45 ground balls.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be just the second between the Statesmen and Spiders. The teams first played last season in Geneva, a game Richmond won 20-15.
