Herons head to Geneseo Wednesday

The William Smith soccer team will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 18, when it heads to Geneseo for a non-conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game begins a stretch that will see the Herons travel for five of their next six games.
 
William Smith is 2-2-1 overall and is coming off a win 1-0 over Messiah this past Saturday. Senior Lindsay Ringbloom scored the lone goal and Kirsten Nelson made five saves as she earned the shutout.
 
The Knights enter the week at 3-1-1 overall. Geneseo is coming off a 3-0 shutout against Hartwick. Three different Knights scored in the win.

  • Junior Ruth Hotaling has a team-high three assists.
  • Nelson has played the majority of the minutes in goal for the Herons. After recording a shutout on Saturday, she was named the Liberty League's Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

  • Wednesday will be the 31st meeting between the Herons and the Knights.
  • William Smith leads the all-time series 20-8-2, including a mark of 8-4-0 in Geneseo.
  • Last season, the Herons defeated the Knights 2-1. Ava Ruppersberger scored both goals for the Herons. Nelson made five saves.
