Two members of the William Smit soccer team were honored by the league office this afternoon. Senior midfielder
Ruth Hotaling was named the Women's Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week for the second straight week, and sophomore defender
Hannah Goodness earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
Â
Hotaling and Goodness played key roles in William Smith's 2-0 win over Skidmore on Saturday. With their fourth straight win, the Herons improved to 8-2-2 overall and 4-1-0 in Liberty League play.
Â
Hotaling scored both of William Smith's goals in the second half of the victory. In the 49th minute, she dribbled past a defender and slipped a shot past the Skidmore keeper. Eight minutes later, Hotaling scored on a corner kick. She has started all 12 games so far this season, recording 11 goals, one assist and 23 points. Hotaling leads the Liberty League and is 10th in the nation in game-winning goals, 21st in goals and 35th in points.
Â
Goodness and the William Smith defense limited the Thoroughbreds to just five shots on goal. It was William Smith's eighth shutout of the season.
Â
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they take on Vassar (11-2-0, 5-0-0). The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
