ROME, Ga.— Seniors
Nick Fischer and
Jacob Linares will head to the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia, to represent Hobart in the ITA Cup this week. It's the second time since 2019 that Hobart will send a doubles team to the ITA Cup.
The ITA Cup, formerly known as the Small College Nationals, has history dating back to 1986. After expanding in 2019, the ITA Cup will host 16 singles competitors and 16 doubles teams for the Division II, Division III and NAIA competitions. All competitors will be guaranteed at least three matches over the course of the tournament.
Fischer and Linares will begin action on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 1:30 p.m. as they take on Charles Rush and Artem Manov from Whitman.
The Statesmen duo earned a spot in the ITA Cup by winning the ITA Northeast Regional Championships hosted by Skidmore earlier this month. Fischer and Linares are the first Statesmen to win the Northeast Regional Championship since Alan Dubrovsky '20 and Walker Anderson '21 captured the crown in 2018.
Fischer and Linares defeated teams from Yeshiva, RIT, Skidmore, Vassar and Hamilton on their way to the title. Following their championship victory, the duo was named Liberty League Men's Doubles Team of the Week.
