3 Statesmen named to CSC Academic All-District Team

Three members of the Hobart tennis team were named to the 2026 Academic All-District® Team selected by College Sports Communicators. Senior Nick Fischer was honored for the second straight season, while classmates Aidan Staunton and Jose Martinez Barelles earned their first career Academic All-District® recognition.

A Maryland Heights, Missouri, native, Fischer had another impressive season for the Statesmen. Fischer played a significant role in both singles and doubles for the Statesmen, competing in the No. 1 position for both. He went 12-7 in singles this season, posting an 8-6 record at No. 1. Fischer joined Staunton at the No. 1 doubles position, posting an 11-6 record in dual matches. Overall, Fischer was 20-9 in doubles this season after winning the ITA Northeast Regionals and advancing to the semifinals of the ITA Cup in the fall with partner Jacob Linares. In four seasons, Fischer posted a 58-30 record in singles and a 63-33 record in doubles, combining for 121 career wins.  

An economics and pre-law major, Fischer has impressed both academically and athletically. Fischer is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete as well as a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection. This season, he was named to the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week four times, bringing his career total to 12. He was also named the Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week three times in his senior season.

A Goshen, New York, native, Staunton had a standout senior season after missing the 2024-25 season due to injury. He played a significant role in both the singles and doubles lineups for the Statesmen, playing primarily in the No. 2 singles spot and the No. 1 doubles spot. This season, Staunton went 8-7 in singles, posting a 2-6 record in the No. 2 spot and a 4-1 record at No. 3. He joined Fischer in doubles play, posting an 11-6 record in the top position. Through four seasons, Staunton has combined for a 9-9 record in singles and a 30-15 record in doubles, combining for 39 career wins.

A biology major, Staunton has impressed both on the court and in the classroom. He is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, and a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection. Staunton has been named to the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week twice in his career.  

A Valencia, Spain, native, Martinez Barelles earned the first CSC Academic All-District selection of his career. He played a crucial role in Hobart's lineup, playing in the No. 3 doubles position with partner Tejus Ranadive. Martinez Barelles and Ranadive compiled an 8-5 record in dual matches, while Martinez Barelles combined for an overall record of 11-7 in doubles play. He also added a 3-3 record in singles, making appearances in the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 spots. In four seasons, Martinez Barelles combined for a 5-3 record in singles and a 14-12 record in doubles, combining for 19 career wins.

The physics and engineering major, Martinez Barelles was a standout athletically and academically in his career at Hobart. He is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection and was named an Arnold Memorial Scholar-Athlete in 2024.

The 2026 Academic All-District teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 3.
 
To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with one full year at their current institution, maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 and have played in at least 70 percent of the team's contests.
