10/20/2025 3:38:00 PM

For the second straight week, the William Smith rowing team earned recognition from the Liberty League office. The Herons' varsity four was tabbed the Boat of the Week following its performance at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday.

Juniors Lizzy Whitney and Meghan Bartholomay and seniors Aubrey Ryan, Kate Abdalla and Linnea Darius helped William Smith capture silver medals in the women's collegiate fours event. They traversed the 3-mile Charles River course with a time of 19:03.667. Whitney, Bartholomay, Ryan, Abdalla and Darius had the second fastest time in a 41-boat field. The sixth boat off the line, they overtook the Texas Crew and Clemson Rowing Association on the course. Texas started six seconds ahead of the Herons and Clemson was 12 seconds ahead.

Sunday's medal was William Smith's fourth at the Head of the Charles and first since 2013. The Herons won a bronze medal in the varsity eight that year. William Smith also won a silver medal in the varsity eight race in 2012 and a bronze in the varsity four in 2008.

Ryan, Abdalla, Darius and Bartholomay were also part of the boat of the week following the Head of the Genesee last week.

William Smith will close out the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday, Oct. 25, when it hosts the Challenge on the Canal. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
