4 Herons earn All-Conference recognition

Four members of the William Smith field hockey team were named to the All-Liberty League teams, the conference office announced today. Graduate student Rebecca Mantione and sophomore Caroline Kogut were named to the first team, while sophomore Ana Dios Vidal earned second team honors. Senior Lily Gutch was an honorable mention selection.
 
Mantione, Kogut, Dios Vidal and Gutch all played key roles in a Heron squad that finished the season with a 12-9 record, clinching a spot in the Liberty League Tournament for the fourth-straight season. William Smith went 4-3 in conference play, securing the No. 4 seed. The Herons defeated fifth-seeded Rochester 1-0 in overtime in the first round before falling to top-seeded Vassar 2-1 in the conference semifinals.
 
A forward from Baldwinsville, New York, Mantione earned All-Liberty League honors for the third time of her career. It's her second time receiving first team recognition for William Smith. Mantione started all 21 games this season and led the Herons with 25 points on nine goals, including one game-winning goal, and seven assists. She was named the NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week after a dominant week that saw her record nine points on four goals and an assist in the William Smith Classic. Mantione tallied her second career hat trick and added an assist in a come-from-behind overtime victory against Gettysburg. She then scored the lone goal in regulation as William Smith rallied to defeat Lebanon Valley in a shootout the following day.

In her five seasons as a Heron, Mantione played in 87 career games, starting 80. She recorded 83 points on 29 goals, including six game winners, and 25 assists. Mantione is a four-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction as well as a four-time NFHCA National Academic Squad member. She was named to the NFHCA Preseason watch list twice and was named to the NFHCA Senior Team in 2024. Mantione earned All-Liberty League first team honors in 2023 and 2025 as well as the All-Liberty League second team in 2022. She earned NFHCA All-Region second team honors in 2023. In her final season, Mantione ranked third in the Liberty League in shots per game (3.23), fifth in shots on goal per game (1.68), assists per game (.318) and points per game (1.14). She also ranked sixth in the conference in goals per game (.409).
 
A defender from Glenville, New York, Kogut had another standout season for William Smith, earning her second-straight All-Liberty League first team award. Kogut started in all 21 games for the Herons this season, recording 15 points on five goals, including one game-winning goal, and five assists. She played a key role on both sides of the ball, including both offensive and defensive penalty corner units. Coming off a Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Year honor in 2024, Kogut continued to be a lockdown defender for William Smith in her sophomore season. She was second on the team with two defensive saves and ranked seventh in the Liberty League in defensive saves per game (0.09). Kogut also ranked 11th in the conference in shots per game (2.32).

Through two seasons, Kogut has started all 40 games for William Smith. She has recorded 42 points on 17 goals, including two game winners, and eight assists. In 2024, Kogut was named to the NFHCA All-Region first team as well as the NFHCA National Academic Squad.
 
A midfielder from Madrid, Spain, Dios Vidal was named to the All-Liberty League second team after being named All-Liberty League honorable mention a year ago. Dios Vidal played in 18 games this season, starting two. She recorded nine points on four goals, including two game-winning goals, and an assist. Dios Vidal played a key role in both offensive and defensive penalty corner units and was a key contributor in the midfield for the Herons. She was named the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime against Rochester to clinch a spot in the Liberty League Tournament.

Through two seasons, Dios Vidal has played in 36 games, starting 14. She has 13 points on five goals, including two game winners, and three assists. In 2024, Dios Vidal was named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.
 
A forward from Saratoga Springs, New York, Gutch earned her first career all-conference selection after a standout season that saw her record 22 points on a team-leading 10 goals, including three game winners, and two assists. She started all 21 games, playing a key role on the offensive line and in the offensive penalty corner unit. Gutch was named the NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week after a dominant week that saw her tally 12 points on six goals in three games. She tallied her first career hat trick in a 5-2 win over Houghton and then followed that up with a third-quarter goal in a 3-2 win over RPI. Gutch closed out the week with a pair of goals to power the Herons to a 2-1 victory at Vassar. In her senior season, Gutch ranked fourth in the Liberty League in goals per game (.455), seventh in points per game (1.00) and 12th in shots on goal (1.23).

Through four seasons, Gutch has played in 81 games for the Herons, starting 42. She has recorded 37 points on 15 goals, including four game winners, and seven assists. Gutch was named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad and the Liberty League All-Academic Team in 2024.
