5 Statesmen nab all-region recognition

A program record-matching five members of the Hobart soccer team were voted to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-Region III teams. The Statesmen led Region III with four players earning a spot on the first team.
 
The Statesmen also had five selections to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Northeast Region teams in 2008.

Senior Brian Sheehan, junior La Zai Outerbridge and sophomores Brady Leitner and Griffin Coutts were named to the first team. Senior Quinn Phillips earned second team recognition.
 
Sheehan and Coutts anchored Hobart's defense that allowed just 12 goals this season. The Statesmen are 19th in the nation in GAA (0.63). They helped Hobart compile nine shutouts on the season and allowed one goal or fewer in 17 of their 19 games this season.

A first team All-Liberty League selection, Sheehan started all 19 games at center back. He scored Hobart's first goal of the season in the Statesmen's 2-0 victory over Kean.
 
A three-year starter, Sheehan played in 63 career games. He recorded 14 points on five goals and four assists.
 
Griffin Coutts Passes the Ball
 

Coutts started all 19 games at left back for the Statesmen. He finished the year tied for second on the team with five goals and was third with 13 points.  Coutts became the first Statesman in over a decade to record a hat trick when he scored three goals against St. Lawrence. He also had the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Skidmore on his way to earning first team All-Liberty League recognition.
 
Coutts has played in 33 career games, starting 30 in his first two seasons with Hobart.
 
La Zai Outerbridge Looks to Pass the Ball


Outerbridge moves up to the first team after earning third team recognition last season. A dynamic player, he started all 19 games in the midfield this season. Outerbridge recorded six points on two goals and two assists. He had a season-high three points on a goal and an assist against Vassar in the Liberty League Championship game.
 
A three-year starter, Outbridge has played in 56 career games. He has recorded 24 points on 10 goals and four assists.

A forward Leitner started all 18 games he played in for the Statesmen. He led the team with nine goals and 19 points. Leitner's four game-winning goals are 37th in the nation. He scored twice in victories over St. John Fisher and Brockport.
A two-time All-Liberty League selection, Leitner earned all-region praise for the first time. In 35 career games, Leitner has 14 goals and 29 points.
 
Quinn Phillips Passes the Ball


Phillips started all 19 games in the midfield for Hobart. He was second on the team with five goals, four assists and 14 points. Phillips matched his career high with five points on two goals and an assist in a win over Ithaca. He also had a four-point game, recording a goal and two assists in the regular season finale against Rensselaer.
 
A four-year starter, Phillips has seen action in 63 games. He's recorded 43 points on 16 goals and 11 assists. He is a two-time All-Liberty League selection.
 
Hobart finished the year with a 13-1-5 overall record. The Statesmen were 13-0-5 entering the NCAA tournament, unbeaten for the first time since 2008. Hobart was 6-0-3 in Liberty League play, capturing the conference regular season and tournament titles for the fifth time. Hobart was edged by Messiah 1-0 in overtime in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
