HAVERFORD, Pa.—The William Smith squash team defeated Vassar 6-1 at Haverford College this afternoon. With the win, the Herons finished their swing through Pennsylvania with a 1-2 record.
The win over Vassar was the first William Smith victory for coach
Whitney Stewart, who is in her first year in charge of Wiliam Smith.
ABOUT THE WEEKEND
- On Friday, William Smith was defeated by No. 21 Franklin and Marshall 8-1.
- The Herons opened Saturday's play with a 9-0 loss to Haverford.
- William Smith picked up its first win of the season, beating the Brewers.
AGAINST THE DIPLOMATS
- Franklin and Marshall, which entered the weekend ranked 21st in the College Squash Association poll, won all eight of their points with 3-0 sweeps.
- Grace Whittaker won her match by default.
AGAINST THE FORDS
- Haverford logged eight 3-0 sweeps.
- First-year Reshika Rajarathinam kept the match close in the No. 1 spot but was edged by Ariana Solecki, 9-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-7, 12-10.
AGAINST VASSAR
- In their match with the Brewers, William Smith won four of their eight points in 3-0 sweeps. Two of their points were 3-1 decisions.
- Rajarathinam swept Adriana Ordaya, 11-4, 11-1, 11-7. It was the first-year's third win of the season in the No. 1 spot.
- Scarlett Sandoval swept Sarah Boucher-Rowe, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7. It was Sandoval's first collegiate win.
- Teghan Torrey beat Perla Leal, 11-3, 11-6, 11-0. The win was also Torrey's first collegiate victory.
- Danielle Dezart defeated Iesha DeSilva, 11-3, 11-2, 11-5.
- Kimberly Javier and Tamia Rollaing won 3-1 in No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. It was their first wins of the season.
