Herons face Thoroughbreds to conclude road trip

The eighth-ranked William Smith lacrosse team concludes its six-game road trip on Saturday, March 29, when it heads to Saratoga Springs, New York, to take on Skdimore. The game is scheduled to begin at noon on Skidmore's Wachenheim Field.
 
The Herons are 5-3 overall with a 2-0 mark in Liberty League play this season and are looking to bounce back from an 8-5 loss to St. John Fisher on Wednesday. Junior Natalie Daniels had three points on a goal and two assists for William Smith.
 
Skidmore is 5-5 overall with a 2-2 mark in conference play. The Thoroughbreds are coming off a 12-11 overtime loss to Vassar on Wednesday.
 
Fans who can't make it to Saratoga Springs can follow all the action on Skidmore's athletics website. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Senior Katherine Murray leads the team with 22 goals, nine assists and 31 points.
  • Sophomore Kira Fulton is right behind her with 15 goals and 22 points.
  • Daniels has 17 goals and and a team-leading 49 draw controls. The William Smith draw unit is 11th in the nation in draw control percentage (.631).
  • Senior Nikki Pio paces the Herons with 11 caused turnovers and is second with 12 ground balls.
  • Senior Maura Smeader has played every minute in goal. She is 5-3 with a 7.50 GAA (24th in the nation) and a .512 save percentage.
 
 
ABOUT THE THOROUGHBREDS
  • Lily Schwartzman leads Skidmore with 27 goals and 27 points.
  • Julia Cafasso is right behind her with 21 goals and 25 points.
  • Phoebe is the top playmaker 17 assists on the year.
  • Charlotte Taylor paces Skidmore with 28 draw controls and Tessa Snyder is tops on the team in caused turnovers with 15.
  • Isabella Iannone and Maggie Hough have split time in goal. Iannone is 2-2 with an 11.47 GAA and a .444 save percentage. Hough is 3-3 with an 11.63 GAA and a .480 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the 31st meeting between William Smith and Skidmore.
  • The Herons lead the all-time series 26-4, including a 9-2 edge in Saratoga Springs.
  • Last year, William Smith won 13-4 in Geneva. Daniels had five goals and Murray added three goals and an assist. Smeader got the start in goal and made eight saves.
