#5 Herons welcome Red Dragons to Poole Family Dome

The fifth-ranked William Smith lacrosse team concludes its season-opening three-game homestand on Saturday, March 8, when it welcomes Cortland to Geneva, New York. The game will be played on Stiles Field in the Thomas B. Poole '61 and Family Sports Dome. The opening draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
 
Due to fire code restrictions, spectators will be limited to only those people listed on the teams' pass lists. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM. Online coverage includes streaming video on HWS All-Access and Live Stats.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith enters this weekend with a 2-0 record after knocking off Brockport 17-4 last Saturday.
  • Senior Katherine Murray leads the team with 11 points on seven goals and four assists.
  • Junior Natalie Daniels has a team-high nine goals, 23 draw controls and six caused turnovers.
  • Daniels is second in the nation in draw controls per game (11.50).
  • Junior Lily Kuhn has five CTs and junior Delaney Cassidy has five draw controls.
  • Senior goaltender Maura Smeader has played every minute in goal. She has a 6.50 GAA and a .594 save percentage. Her nine ground balls lead the team. Smeader is 17th in the nation in save percentage and 27th in GAA.
 
ABOUT THE RED DRAGONS
  • Cortland is 2-1 this season after beating Hartwick 20-9 on Wednesday. After trailing 5-3 early in the second quarter, the Red Dragons scored 16 of the next 17 goals.
  • Toni Cashman leads Cortland with eight goals, five assists and 13 points.  Mia Mitchell is right behind her with seven goals and nine points.
  • Isabel Adams and Rachel Rempe have seven draw controls each to lead the team. Adams also leads the team with five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
  • Trinity Parks has played every minute in goal. She has a 10.67 GAA and a .425 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday's game will be the 51st meeting between William Smith and Cortland.
  • The series is deadlocked 25-25 and 11-11 in Geneva.
  • The Herons have won two straight in the series, including a 13-5 win over the Red Dragons in the Poole Family Dome in 2023.
