Hobart to face Ithaca in 3 game series this weekend

The Hobart baseball team will play a pivotal three-game series against Ithaca this weekend. The Statesmen will travel to Ithaca for a single game on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. The Bombers will make the return trip to Geneva for a doubleheader at McDonough Park on Sunday, April 27 starting at noon.
 
Prior to the start of the first game on Sunday, Hobart will honor its five seniors—pitcher Nicholas Franchesci, shortstop Nate Johnson, catcher Owen Sanders, pitcher Griffin Snyder, and pitcher Ryan Stewart—in a brief on field ceremony.
 
PB & J's Lunch Box food truck will be on site serving fans. HWS students/faculty/staff will receive one free sandwich with a valid OneCard.
 
Hobart is 16-13 overall, 6-9 in Liberty League play. The Statesmen are sixth in the Liberty League West, two spots away from qualifying for the Liberty League Crossover Series, May 2-3, which features the top four teams in each division competing for the four spots in the Liberty League Tournament, May 8-11.
 
Ithaca is 20-11, including a 12-4 mark in conference action. The Bombers sit atop the West and have clinched a spot in the crossover series.
 
HOBART HIGHLIGHTS
  • Hobart leads the Liberty League with 95 stolen bases this season. The Statesmen are also first in the conference with 16 sacrifice flies.
  • Junior second baseman Christian Petry is batting .309 with a team-high 30 hits and a team-best .492 on-base percentage. He leads the league in hit-by-pitch (20), is tied for fourth in stolen bases (20) and 11th in on-base percentage.
  • The Statesmen pitching staff leads the league in ERA (4.09), shutouts (3), fewest runs allowed (135), and fewest walks (98).
  • Junior starter Teck Nash leads the League in fewest walks allowed (5) and is second in innings pitched (53.2). He has a 3.69 ERA with 33 strikeouts and a complete game.
  • Sophomore Trevor Kimball has also impressed in the rotation. He sits eighth in the league in ERA (3.47) and second in walks allowed (7). Kimball sports a 2-2 record with 33 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings.
 
ITHACA HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Bombers have hit a league-leading 35 home runs and sport a league best .488 slugging percentage.
  • Senior outfielder Collin Feeney is batting.342 with a league-leading 26 stolen bases and is tied with teammate Riley Brawdy for the league lead with four triples.
  • On the mound, Ithaca's staff is fourth in the conference with a 5.58 team ERA.
  • Colin Leyner and Jack Picozzi are the Bombers' top starters. Leyner has a 3-2 record in nine starts with a 5.04 ERA and 23 strikeouts. Picozzi is 2-2 in eight starts. He sports a team-leading 47 strikeouts.
 
SCHEDULE UPDATES
  • Hobart's makeup game against Clarkson, originally slated for McDonough Park on Sunday, will now be played at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, New York, on Monday, April 28 at 4:30 p.m.
  • The Statesmen also rescheduled a game against Keystone, originally set for April 10 at McDonough Park. That game will now be played at 6 p.m. Monday, May 5 at McDonough Park.
